Animation sculptor Michael Defeo’s groundbreaking anatomy app for iOS.
L’Ecorché, an intuitive, multi-faceted 3D model of Jean-Antoine Houdon’s “échorché,” is an elegant and painstakingly-detailed fusion of anatomy reference book with iconic physical model that takes the best of both and ushers them into a whole new medium for learning. L’Ecorché was created using scan data from one of the original Houdon plasters and is the only true digital copy of the iconic sculpture.
Originally developed by Michael as a personal reference for courses with anatomy expert Scott Eaton, the two worked together to develop L’Ecorché and provide it with the most elegant and intuitive features possible including tumble-and-zoom of the model from 360°, informational overlays featuring a full muscular map with descriptive text, and a primitives version to better understand the forms at play.
L’Ecorché is available through the App Store for $4.99, and a version for Android devices is currently in the works.
